1,500 Pages and Counting

25 August 2025

Today, I added a fresh page to the site. I do that most days, often more than once, but today is different because the page was no. 1,500. When I created the site back in 2006, I never dreamed it would become so large. It only had four pages: the home page, a page listing my stories, a links page, and a contact page. The sidebar also had a link to my blog, which I hosted on a separate domain.

I registered steve-calvert.co.uk on 24 June 2006. By August, I’d already started adding book reviews. A year later, my A Passion for Horror website had 59 book review pages, all of them coded in HTML—I didn’t start converting the site to WordPress until 2015, and, due to work commitments, the process of doing so took me the best part of a decade.

If you are interested, back in those days, the home page looked like this:

As you can see, there was a lot of black going on. What you can’t see is most of the images are animated gifs. The two skulls at the top of the page used to chatter away to each other, the red line under the site title dripped blood, and the skulls at the bottom corner were engulfed in flames. I miss that site, but, overall, I prefer the present version—for lots of reasons, one of them being WordPress allows me to move with the times and make site-wide changes if and when they become necessary.

Admittedly, it has taken me a long time to clock-up 1,500 pages, but there used to be long periods when I was too busy to add any fresh content, or simply found it hard to find the motivation. The book reviews available on the site barely scratch the surface. I have read many, many, many more. The same is true for the movie reviews.

If I stick to my present schedule, I’m hoping the site may reach 2,000 pages before the end of next year. I’m also hoping to add more publication credits to the “My Stuff” section of the site. That may be harder. All I can do is keep writing stories and sending them out. Whether or not they see print lies solely in the hands of the editors of the magazines and anthologies I submit to.

As for page no. 1,500, it’s a guide to Armada Monster books. A few days ago, I added a guide to Armada Ghost Books. I would have been a pity to cover one series without the other.
